The library will be holding an essay contest for youth writers in grades 4-12. Grades 4-8 are asked to write a 200- to 300-word essay about why libraries are important and why they love libraries. Grades 9-12 are asked to write an essay of 500-600 words. To enter, submit the essay in digital format to mjohnson@mariposacounty.org by Sept. 30. The submission must contain the youth's name, grade, and school. The winning entries will be determined by the staff members of the library and Gazette. The Mariposa Branch will be hosting a fall wreath workshop on Sunday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon. It will be held at 4978 10th Street. It is free and all supplies are provided. Registration is required. This event is for adults. Participants will be making corn husk wreaths using a variety of hues.
The library will be hosting another round of Every Child Ready to Read. Dates will be Sept. 14, Oct. 12, Nov. 9, Dec. 16 at the Mariposa Branch. Space is limited. Registration is required. The program teaches parents to prepare their children for reading by doing different activities in the area of talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. The library and Mother Lode Job Training are teaming up to host a Career Power Hour. MLJT staff will be onsite at the library at 4978 10th Street to provide resources to set people on career path of their choosing. It will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 27.
Have you heard about the event that the Wawona Friends of the Library are holding on Sept. 21? On that Saturday from 10 am to noon, they will be celebrating Wawona authors Tom Bopp and John Broesamle. Both Bopp ("Yosemite Stage Driver") and Broesamle ("Transforming Paradise") have books published about Yosemite. The event will highlight the people who helped create the Wawona and Yosemite we know and cherish today. In addition, speakers including Bopp, Yosemite Ranger Erich Schnack, Nona Monteverde Rafferty, Carolyn Vondriska, and Kathy Broesamle will be featured. It all takes place at the Wawona Community Center, located at 7925 Chilnualna Falls Road. This is free to attend. Light refreshments will be served. Books will be available for purchase.

We're starting another round of Tech Tuesday this fall. It will begin on September 17 at 4 p.m. and will be held every Tuesday at the same time, for six weeks. This is free to attend. Materials and equipment are provided. This class is aimed at helping those who need basic computer or phone help.
