Loan Periods
New books check out for 7 days and all other items check out for 3 weeks.

Renewing
New books renew for 7 days and all other items renew for 3 weeks — if they have no hold requests. Items can be renewed online in ValleyCat. Note: ValleyCat renewals can be made only once per item.

Items can also be renewed by calling a branch library during open hours, or toll-free 1-866-290-8681. Note: toll-free renewals can be made only once per item.

View Checkouts, Holds, Fees
In ValleyCat cardholders can view due dates of checked out items, renew, request or cancel holds, and view any fees owed. Users can also see holds that are ready for checkout and holds still in transit.

Suspend items on hold
You may suspend holds before going out of town, preserving your places on waiting lists for items. The items won’t arrive while you're gone, and you can activate the holds when you return. To suspend or activate items, access your account, click the Holds tab, click a Suspend Until Date, mark one or more titles, and click Change Status.

Item Limits
Maximum 25 items checked out at any one time per library card, with a limit of 5 DVDs within that total.

Hold REQUESTS
Maximum 30 current holds per library card.

Library Cards
Applicants for library cards must show ID with current mailing address. Applicants age 17 and under need a parent or guardian signature on the application, as well as the responsible person's driver's license number. Library cards are free, however, there is a $5 fee to replace a lost card. To apply for a library card, print the Library Card Application form and turn it in at the library. Applicants will need to sign their application forms in the library. (Adobe Reader is required to view or print the form.)

Online payments
You can use your credit card or debit card to pay your library fees and fines online via the SmartPAY system. Details about SmartPAY. Make a payment through SmartPAY.

Fees for Overdue Items
All library items are subject to overdue fees:

  • 50¢ per new book per overdue day, to a maximum of $5 per book
  • 50¢ per video per overdue day, to a maximum of $5 per video
  • 25¢ per book, magazine, audio or CD per overdue day, to a maximum of $4 per item

Other Fees & Charges

  • Interlibrary loan $1.25
  • Lost library card replacement $5
  • Photocopies 10¢ per page
  • Computer printing 10¢ per black & white page; $1 per color page
  • Microfilm and microfiche copies 25¢

Replacement & Damage Charges
Replacement cost of item plus a non-refundable $5 processing fee will be charged for the following:

  • Lost item
  • Torn pages
  • Crayon and/or ink marks, including highlighting
  • Water or oil damage, food or other stains
  • Mildew
  • Missing CD, DVD, or tape
  • Any other damage rendering item unusable
