What the Library has to offer

Although the Mariposa County Library System serves a rural area, the capabilities and resources it provides are extensive. More than 50,000 items are held by the Mariposa County Library System itself. In addition, the library's membership in the San Joaquin Valley Library System provides access to 3 million (and counting) items. Through interlibrary loan additional items can be borrowed from libraries throughout California and the US.

The library subscribes to services that are not available free on the Internet, such as newspaper and magazine databases. Most of these research databases can be used from home with a valid Mariposa County Library card.

We make a strong effort to serve children and young adults by providing collections and services that are appropriate to the needs of each age group. The main library in Mariposa is composed of comfortable areas, including a community room for public meetings that is available even after hours. Homebound delivery is available for homebound residents.

Our professional and welcoming library staff is always ready to help locate materials, explain library services, and provide answers to reference questions. High-speed Internet access is provided to the public free of charge. We also offer Internet orientation and library tours.

The Mariposa County Library System is supported by several strong Friends of the Library groups who have played a crucial role in the expansion of the library system over the years and who host annual and ongoing fundraising events. We encourage you to become a member!
